Our office in Inverness was founded in 1995 to service the growing Scottish aquaculture industry.
To date, we are the only dedicated aquaculture veterinary practice accredited under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Practice Standards Scheme, which audits our practice to ensure the highest standards of clinical care.
In the United Kingdom, our multi-disciplinary, specialist-led team provides primary and consultative veterinary and technical services across all major species. Our veterinary and technical staff includes subject-matter experts in a number of key areas of aquaculture health such as gill health, viral myopathies of salmonids, sea lice and fresh quality.
Our team of pathologists have over 150 years of combined experience in aquatic pathology. This extensive experience means quality, relevant and practical advice is provided with results. Our histopathologists all come from diverse backgrounds within fish health and production, leading to an expansive clinical skill set and broad areas of expertise across our team.
Fish Vet Group’s strong academic links include providing teaching in a number of UK veterinary schools, alongside regularly authoring academic papers including recent major reviews on gill disorders and pancreas disease. In 2016, we partnered with the University of Edinburgh to create a unique training residency focused on aquatic pathology.

Originally founded in 2000 by Dr. Hamish Rodger in response to growing demand for a dedicated aquatic animal veterinary practice off the West Coast of Ireland, Fish Vet Group Ireland, formerly Vet-Aqua International joined the Group in 2013.
FVG Ireland is a Veterinary Council of Ireland registered veterinary practice which services the aquaculture, fisheries, public aquaria and aquatic animal sectors.
In addition to providing veterinary, diagnostic, training and consultancy services to clients in Ireland and abroad the team are involved in several national and international priority aquaculture health issues research programs.
Research is conducted in-house and includes specific projects on amoebic gill disease (with Irish Research Council and a second with GMIT & the Marine Institute), cleaner fish health and welfare (Irish Research Council and IRC projects with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology) plus, climate change and aquaculture (CERES project EC Horizon 2020).
Staff also act as advisors to various international research collaborations, publication, investment and educational bodies.
Founder and Director, Dr. Hamish Rodger, has over 30 years’ experience as a dedicated aquatic animal veterinarian. Working alongside him are Dr. Susie Mitchell, Ms. Mar Marcos-Lopez and Mr. Felix Scholz and Ms. Emmanuelle Millaire oversees all the office administration.

Our custom designed laboratory in Oslo was established to our detailed specification in 2014. It was designed focusing on quality, efficiency, capacity and minimizing contamination risk.
The state-of-the-art laboratory provides histopathological examination and virus and bacteria detection by high-capacity robotic PCR - across a broad range of available assays including emergent pathogens such as salmon gill pox virus and Branchiomonas.

Our team in Portland, Maine provide veterinarian and diagnostics services, regulatory health inspections and certifications, plus farm health management planning.
Diagnostic assays offered include qPCR/PCR, bacteriology, IFAT/DFAT, virology and histopathology. Their histopathology service also includes slide digitalisation capabilities via two Aperio Scan Scopes (20x, 40x, & 100x under oil). Working with both marine and freshwater species, including food fish, shellfish, and ornamental species their veterinarian is USDA APHIS accredited and complies with AFS-FHS “Bluebook” or OIE standards for fish health inspection.

In March 2016, our state-of-the-art 13,500 square feet facility equipped with robotic qPCR and digital histology equipment opened in Chile. It is currently the only aquaculture health facility in Latin America with this capability. The new lab utilises the latest technology to form a highly-automated process from receipt of samples to the reading of the results.
Fish Vet Group Chile is one of the official fish health laboratories recognised by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca), allowing them to certify the health status of fish farming throughout the country.
The lab obtained ISO 17025 accreditation in early 2017 and in addition to performing the usual clinical examinations, can make the appropriate official analyses for specific Sernapesca programs related to ISAv, SRS (P. salmonis), Epidemiological Surveillance Programs and screening for broodstock (BKD-IPNv-ISAv), among others related to the production of salmonids.
