Histopathology is the microscopic examination of sections of fixed tissue in order to study manifestations of disease. Unlike other laboratory-based diagnostic methodologies which detect the presence or absence of specific pathogens, used correctly, histopathology can offer commentary on the severity and significance of infectious and non-infectious disease processes present in fish populations.

Our team has over 150 years of combined experience in aquatic pathology. This extensive experience means that quality, relevant and practical advice is provided with all results. Our histopathologists come from diverse backgrounds within fish health and production, leading to an expansive clinical skill set and broad areas of expertise across our team.

We participate in the independent external Quality Assurance scheme NEQAS, and regularly receive top scores for processing and staining.

Our global diagnostic team is connected by Aperio digital pathology, which allows for provision of specialist and collective opinions on more complex cases. In addition to routine staining, we can perform a wide range of advanced special stains including immunohistochemistry.

Please contact us for a full list of special stains available.

We welcome submissions from veterinary surgeons and biologists working across aquaculture, from producers to those involved in nutritional and pharmaceutical research.

In addition, with competence across a broad range of aquatic species, we provide histopathology services for the fisheries, ornamental and laboratory fish sectors.
